Meet Richard Goater, Founder and Director
Richard Goater BA (Hons), Dip Ed, M.Ed.Man, PhD has spent much of the past decade researching leadership, team dynamics and the impact of transformational influence in groups. His passion is to support others extend their leadership potential so that they can better facilitate and sustain the needs of their teams and organizations. Richard’s focus is to raise collective awareness around the importance of shared leadership practices and an understanding that what we achieve, how we think and perceive our leadership capabilities is influenced by the leadership behaviours and expectations of those around us.
Richard’s doctoral research led to the development of a shared leadership tool that uses social network analysis to examine the patterns of influence within teams. In addition, Richard is qualified in the use of a range of leadership and team-based instruments, including Human Synergistics and Leadership Impact, Integro’s DiSC model, the Team Culture Inventory, Emotional Culture and Genos Emotional Intelligences.
Richard’s experience includes coaching and mentoring; self, team and strategic leadership; organizational development; and strategic planning. Throughout his career he has engaged with students, parents, staff, teams, and organizations to address diverse challenges including direction setting, leadership development, team alignment, and conflict resolution.
Richard’s personal interests have included activities as diverse as rock climbing, mountaineering, ultra-distance marathons, yacht racing, surfing, and windsurfing. He remains an enthusiastic fly-fisher, photographer, and keen supporter of both his children’s passions.
